UNIT 6 : LANDFORMS AND LANDSCAPES ( 08/6/ 2022)

Land has many forms. They are called landforms.  (El suelo tiene  muchas formas. Las llamamos formas de relieve)

• Mountains: are places that are high and pointy. Hills are rounded and not as high as mountains. (Las montañas son lugares altos y puntiagudos. Las colinas son redondeadas y no tan altas como las montañas)
• Mountain ranges   is a series of mountains or hills ranged in a line and connected by high ground. (Una sierra o cadena montañosa es un conjunto de montañas o colinas alineadas y conectadas por suelo elevado)
• A valley is the low area between two mountains. (Un valle es el área entre dos montañas)
• A plain is a large area of flat land with no hills or mountains in them. (Una llanura es un vasto terreno plano sin colinas o montañas )
• Plateaus are large areas of raised land that have a flat on top. (Las mesetas son vastas áreas de tierra elevada con una llanura en la parte superior)

UNIT 6 . THE CARDINAL POINTS

The cardinal points help us find places. The cardinal points are north, south, east and west.

Los puntos cardinales mnos ayudan a encontrar los lugares que buscamos. Los puntos cardinales son el norte, el sur, el este y el oeste.

UNIT 6: OUR WORLD  ( 25/5/2022)

Today we started unit 6 "Our World" In this lesson we will learnt about landforms, , the cardinal points, natural and man-made elements and rocks and minerals. 

Hoy empezamos la unidad 6 "Nuestro Mundo" En esta unidad aprenderemos sobre el relieve, los puntos cardinales, los elementos naturales y artificiales y las rocas y los minerales.

We live on planet Earth. First we make the difference between a globe and a map. A globe represents the Earth in a more realistic way. A map is a flat representation of the Earth .

Vivimos en la Tierra. Primero aprendimos a diferenciar entre un globo terráqueo y un mapa. Un globo representa a la Tierra de un modo más realista. Un mapa es una representación  plana de la Tierra.

We also discovered that the blue part of a map or globe represents water and that the brown and green part represents land.

También descubrimos que la parte azul de un mapa representa el agua y la parte marrón y verde representa los continentes.

We saw a video about the five continents on Earth ( America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania) and the five oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, Southern, Indian and Artic Ocean)

Vimos también un vídeo sobre los cinco continentes (América, Europa, Asia, África y Oceanía) y los cinco océanos (Atlántico, Pacífico, Antártico, Índico y Ártico)

UNIT 5 : STOPPING POLLUTION AND  SAVING WATER (18-5-22)

We need water. Have showers, not baths, to save water is something good.  Turn off the tap everytime you brush your teeth.

Necesitamos el agua. Dúchate en vez de bañarte para ahorrar agua. Cierra el grifo cuando no uses el agua al cepillarte los dientes.

Looking after water is taking care of life. Without water  there would be no plants, no animals and no people. Oceans and rivers are no containers. Throw rubbish in the bin to keep water clean.  Birds and sea animals can eat the plastic things you throw and die. Petroleum has also cause a lot of damage to seas and oceans.

Working as a team we can make the water clean again. Stop using so much plastic. Collect all your trash when you go to a trip. Don't throw any liquids or oils into the drains.  Encourage your family to improve their habits. Come on take responsibility! We can do it all together!

Cuidar del agua es cuidar de la vida también. Sin agua no habría plantas, ni animales, ni personas. Los mares y océanos no son contenedores de basura. Tira la basura a los contenedores para que el agua esté limpia. Los pájaros y los animales de mar pueden comerse las cosas de plástico que tiras y morir. El petróleo también causa muchos daños a los océanos.

Trabajar como un equipo puede hacer que el agua se conserve limpia. Deja de usar tanto plástico. Recoge tu basura cuando vayas de excursión. No tires líquidos como aceites y pinturas por el desagüe. Anima a tu familia a que hagan las cosas bien. Toma responsabilidad. ¡Podemos hacerlo juntos!

UNIT 5 : WATER AND AIR (20-4-2022 and 21-4-2022)

Today we revised all the contents we learnt before Easter. We talked about the places where we could find water like the seas, lakes, river and in the clouds, rain and snow. Then we talked about the characteristics of water. We brought some glasses of water and we agreed that:

Hoy repasamos todos los contenidos que aprendimos antes de las vacaciones. Hablamos de los lugares donde podemos encontrar agua como en los mares, lagos y ríos y en las nubes, en la lluvia y en la nieve. Además hablamos sobre las características del agua. Trajimos unos vasos de agua a la clase y concluimos que:

- Water has no colour (El agua no tiene color)

- Water is transparent (El agua es transparente)

- Water has no taste (El agua no tiene sabor)

- Water has no shape . In its liquid state it borrows the shape of the container.  (El agua no tiene forma, sino que toma la forma del recipiente que la contiene)

UNIT 4: THE SOLAR SYSTEM (4-3-2022)

Our home, the Earth, is a planet! The Earth is one of the eight planets. Some are bigger than the Earth and some are smaller. All of the planets orbit around the sun.  The four planets closest to the Sun are called the inner planets. They are Mercury, Venus, the Earth and Mars. The other four are called the outer planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. 

In 2006, scientists decided that Pluto was too small to be called a planet. They decided it should be called a dwarf planet.

Nuestro hogar La Tierra, es un planeta. La Tierra es uno de los ocho planetas. Algunos planetas son más cercanos a la Tierra y otros más lejanos. Todos los planetas giran al rededor del Sol. Los cuatro planetas más cercanos al sol son llamados planetas interiores. Son Mercurio, Venus, la Tierra y Marte. Los otros  cuatro planetas son llamados planetas exteriores: Jupiter, Saturno, Urano y Neptuno. 

En 2006, los  científicos decidieron que Plutón era demasiado pequeño para ser llamado planeta. Decidieron que debía considerársele como un planeta enano.

UNIT 4: THE SUN , THE MOON AND THE EARTH ( 2-3-2022 and 4-3-2022)

Today we learnt about the Sun, the Moon and the Earth. Let's remember:

• The Sun. It  is yellow and bright. The sun warms your face. The Sun is a star. The Sun is the closest star to Earth. Like all stars, the Sun is a giant ball of gas. The burning gas gives off light. The Sun is very very hot!It has been shining for billion of years and it will be shining for billions more. The Sun is in the Center of our Solar System. The Earth and other planets all travel around it. The Sun is much bigger thsn the planets that orbit it.  The Sun gives us light and heat. It also gives us energy.

El Sol. Es amarillo y brillante. El sol nos calienta el rostro.El Sol es una estrella. Es la estrella más cercana a la Tierra. Como todas las estrellas, el Sol es una bola gigante de gas. El gas ardiente le da esa luz. El Sol está muy muy caliente. Ha estado brillando durante billones de años y seguirá brillando durante más billones de años.El Sol está en el centro del Sistema Solar. La Tierra y otros planetas giran alrededor de el sol.El Sol es mucho más grande que los planetas que lo orbitan. . El  Sol nos da luz y calor. También nos da energía.

• The Moon. The Moon is a satellite. Satellites travel around planets.The Moon circles our planet, the Earth. The Moon is round and hard. Days are hots and nights are freezing cold.The Moon is covered with deep holes called craters. It  has huge rocks.  It even has mountains.The moon is the  Earth's closest neighbour in space. That is why the Moon looks so big in the night sky. The Moon can seem very bright. But it doesn' make its own life. What you see is the sun's light shining on the Moon. We see different parts of the Moon 's sunlit surface as it orbits the Earth. Sometimes we see a crescent moon. sometimes we see a full moon.... These shapes are called phases. The first astronauts walked on the moon in 1969.

La Luna. La Luna es un satélite. Los satélites viajan alrededor de los planetas. La Luna viaja alrededor de nuestro planeta, la Tierra. La Luna es redonda y dura. Los días allí son cálidos y las noches frías. La Luna está cubierta de agujeros profundos llamados cráteres. La Luna tiene rocas gigantescas. Incluso tiene montañas . La Luna está muy cerca de la Tierra. Por esi parece tan grande en el cielo de noche. Puede parecer que la  Luna brilla, pero no tiene luz propia. Lo que ves es la luz que refleja del Sol.  Vemos distintas partes de la Luna cuando orbita a la Tierra. Algunas veces vemos una luna creciente, o luna llena....Estas formas se llaman fases. Los primeros astronautas que caminaron  por la Luna lo hicieron en 1969.

• The Earth. The Earth is a planet. The planet Earth is just the right distance from the sun for living things. It is not too hot or too cold. More than six and a half billion people live here!

LA Tierra. La Tierra es un planeta. El planeta Tierra está a la distancia perfecta  del sol para que exista la vida. No es  un planeta demasiado cálido o demasiado frío. Más de seis y medio billones de personan viven aquí.

UNIT 4 : THE SOLAR SYSTEM

Last Friday 1ºB students started unit 4 about the Solar System. We presented the unit by means of a poster and we talked about what we learnt in 5 years old and our observation of the sky.

El pasado viernes los alumnos de 1ºB empezaron la unidad 4 sobre el Sistema solar. Presentamos la unidad a través de un poster y  hablamos sobre lo que aprensimos en cinco años y de nuestra experiencia en la observación del cielo durante el día y la noche.

UNIT 3: ROAD SAFETY ( 2-2-2022)

Today we learnt abour road safety with our language assistant Amanda. We did pages 42 and 43.We learnt that:

- We must wait for the green light.

- We must cross the road at the zebra crossing.

- We must wear our helmet

- We must wear our seat belt in the car

Hoy aprendimos seguridad vial con nuestra auxiliar de conversación Amanda. hicimos también las páginas 42 y 43 de nuestro libro de ciencias sociales. Aprendimos que:

- Debemos esperar hasta que el semáforo esté en verde.

- Debemos cruzar por el paso de peatones.

- Debemos llevar casco cuando montamos en bici o en moto.

- Debemos ponernos el cinturón de seguridad en el coche.

We also played a game with Amanda. It's called, Green Light, Orange Light, Red Light"

Además jugamos a un juego con Amanda. Se llama "Luz verde, luz ambar, luz roja"

UNIT 3: PLACES IN THE CITY AND JOBS (24- 1- 2022)

We learnt about places and jobs today as we had Natural Science on Friday so today we had Social Science. Now we are aware of the people that work in each place.  We also did pages 38 and 39.

Aprendimos sobre los lugares y los trabajos que se desempeñan en cada lugar porque hoy tuvimos ciencias sociales en vez de ciencias naturales ya que el viernes tuvimos las útiles recomendaciones de Paqui sobre alimentación y rutinas de higiene y del sueño pertenecientes a ciencias naturales. Hicimos las páginas 38 y 39 del libro de ciencias sociales.

For example : 

Firefighters put out fires and keep people and property safe from the flames. (Los bomberos apagan incendios y mantienen a las personas y a sus propiedades a salvo de las llamas)

Bakers bake goods for people. They take simple ingredients and make yummy bread, cakes, cookies... (Los panaderos hornean alimentos  para la gente. Cogen ingredientes básicos y los transforman en rico pan, tartas, galletas...)

Police officers keep our city safe. They protect us and inform us. (Los policías mantienen nuestra ciudad segura. Nos protegen y nos informan)

UNIT 3 PLACES IN THE CITY   (20-1-2022)

1ºA students revised the names of the different places in the city. We saw them flashcards and they repeated the name and we talked about what people do in these places. We did page 38 in our Social Science book. Next, we sang a song.

Los alumnos de 1ºA repasaron el nombre de los diferentes lugares que tiene la ciudad. Vimos las flashcards de la unidad, repetimos el nombre de estos lugares y hablamos sobre lo que la gente hace en ellos. Hicimos la página 38 en nuestro Activity Book. Después cantamos una canción.

UNIT 3: MY CITY (12-1-2022)

Today we started unit 3 "My City" and we remembered the difference between a city and a village. We also learnt about the different places we can find in the city. We did pages 36 and 37.

Hoy empezamos la unidad 3 "Mi ciudad" y recordamos la diferencia entre una ciudad y un pueblo. También aprendimos que hay diferentes lugares en la ciudad. Realizamos las páginas 36 y 37.

Today we learnt about the different people that work at school, the school subjects and material. We said a chant and we learnt about the different verbs of the instructions we will have in the book exercises.

Hoy aprendimos sobre las personas que trabajan en el colegio, las asignaturas del cole y el material que utilizamos. Recitamos un poema y aprendimos los diferentes verbos de los enunciados que tendremos en los ejercicios del libro.

FIRST DAYS OF SEPTEMBER

First graders went on a tour to know better our beautiful school.  We went to the computer lab, the garden, the nurse office, the secretary office, the dining room, the toilets...

Los niños de primero de primaria hemos hecho un tour por el colegio para conocerlo mejor. fuimos a la sala de ordenadores, al huerto, a la enfermería, la secretaría, el comedor, los servicios...
